damage prevention
measures
|
| |
|
| |
1
-
The surface on which the carpet is spread should be leveled, dry
and without plaster or lime and free of emply crevices (i.e. between the
flagging or ceramics) since these are good hiding places for growing moths. |
| |
|
| |
2
- As far as possible, the carpet should be kept away from intensive
light and sunshine. |
| |
|
| |
3
- Do not neglect for long periods those parts of the carpet located
under the bed and furniture since due to darkness, lack of air circulation and
inaccessibility of these parts for cleaning, the invisible parts gather pile and
will be susceptible for being moth-eaten. |
| |
|
| |
4
-The cause of moth eating of carpet is use of unsterilized wool,
damp air, and keeping carpets in closed abandoned places or lack of attention to
its cleaning. Once the signs of the carpet’s being moth-eaten is seen, first
the surface on which the carpet has been spread should be controlled and then
the damaged parts must be repaired so that at the time of washing, the carpet
does not become more damaged. |
| |
|
| |
5
-Avoid putting pots with a hole underneath or other damp things on
the carpet. |
| |
|
| |
6
-At times the carpet should be upside downed and the eroded parts
must be translocated to other parts of the room so that all part become equally
eroded. |
| |
|
| |
7
-Rugs and carpets if spread on slippery surfaces like stone and
ceramic easily slide under foot and
will be translocated. To prevent this, under the carpets, spongy linings or lace
nets in sizes lesser than those of the carpet should be spread. |
| |
|
| |
8
- Keeping pet animals at home specially those who are not well
domesticated will result to their urine splashed on the carpet which will stain
it and change its colors. |
| |
|
| |
In warm humid climates, use of all wool carpets is recommended since they
absorb little humidity. |
